The Tiger of Jelutong - Balance and Results

Balance seems to be everything when it comes Chinese metaphysics. In reading Bazi charts, the identification of favourite elements, seasons, as well as daymaster strength is also connected to the goal of identifying when 'balance' can be achieved. Ultimately, I believe, through 'human actions' we can then begin to 'influence' our destiny through the understanding of what balances our life at certain given periods.

I recently completed a 3 part entry on my own personal 'business life' events and related it to the years when some of the events had taken place and whether it had any significance to me. Obviously, I took it from the context of a business perspective. I wanted to find another case, where I can look at a different area, lets say politics, and see whether some of the underlying principles that governs how 'destiny' transpires over the years. The challenge is looking for a case study that I have enough background information on.

In the most recent political fiasco happening here in Malaysia, you see the opposition front losing control of the state of Perak back to the coalition government. Lots of information are been generated in the news. I was hopping to get more information on birth dates and historical data, but a lot of the opposition parties members involved are relatively unknown, so verification of events were quite difficult until recently, when Karpal Singh a prominent leader in one of the component parties of the opposition front took a swipe at Anwar Ibrahim, the leader of the pack.

Doing a quick search on Google for more information on Karpal Singh, I found a table of his participation in previous elections and the results on Wikipedia. Wow, cool. I could possibly just extend the table and see the influence of the YEAR and whether he won or not. Obviously, in an election, there are 2 or more parties competing, and there is very strong likelihood that the contender is even worse luck than him!

Plotting Karpal Singh's chart up (I don''t have his birth time), I realize that he has the same Jia Zi as myself. (Ren Yin) and he was born in the Horse month (same as me, too). Wow....maybe I should have been a politician. way, The thing that is prominent in Karpal's chart that gives him his strength as a politician is probably the Yang Earth element representing 7K in the studies of the 10 Gods found in the Dragon, the year he was born. This is can be interpreted as power, control, aggressiveness etc. Think of big bolders in a river - Rapids! But he is born in Summer, so the water is not so intense, however it's probably supported by his time of birth. (Assumption).

So based on Karpal's chart, I can safely hypothesize that for a weak Ren Water person, Wood and FIRE is NOT a favorable element (but not necessarily that strong as it doesn't not have another fire element in the stem). Metal (resource) and Water (friends and support) should be Good, and Earth not too bad as it weakens fire (creating balance) and it is a resource to Metal. I know this is a very 'high level' academic type approach but lets just take the obvious first and test it out.

I've copied the election results table from wikipedia and added another column (which I had indicated what was the prominent Jia Zi of that year). Again, the text book method is to look primarily at the BRANCH to see the prominent effects of the year.

BTW. Thanks to David of YiFengshui, he had thought me how to look at WHEN the affects of the Jia Zi actually is truly prominent. I need to apply this in my research, too, when I can find more info! He also highlighted to me the importance of the STEM and we should not just discount it completely as it appears upfront.

Year Parliamentary seat/State Legislative Assembly Votes Majority Total voters Jia/Zi and branch element
1974 P Alor Setar - lost - Jia/Yin WOOD
1974 N Alor Setar Bandar - won - Jia/Yin WOOD
1978 P Jelutong - won - Wu/Wu FIRE
1978 N Bukit Gelugor - won - Wu/Wu FIRE
1982 P Jelutong - won - Ren/Xu EARTH
1982 N Bukit Gelugor - won - Ren/Xu EARTH
1986 P Jelutong - won - Bing/Yin WOOD
1986 N Bukit Gelugor - won - Bing/Yin WOOD
1990 P Jelutong - won - Geng/Wu FIRE
1990 N Sungai Pinang - lost - Geng Wu FIRE
1995 P49 Jelutong 21895 won by 283 - Yi/Hai WATER
1995 N Padang Kota - lost - Yi/Hai WATER
1999 P49 Jelutong 20716 lost by 775 59372 Ji.Mao WOOD
2004 P51 Bukit Gelugor (new seat) 22529 won by 1261 60123 Jia/Shen METAL
2008 P51 Bukit Gelugor 35140 won by 21015 65614 Wu/Zi WATER

By looking at the results and comparing the elements of the year, you'll notice that GENERALLY when there's a non favorable element (in either stem or branch) 'luck' possibly could be affected. I've highlighted the exceptions in RED (he had won but had unfavorable elements, or he lost and had favorable elements) so that we can examine these events a little closer and see happen in the chart.

Other considerations to take note is WHEN exactly was the election and WHO (luck consideration) of the contender.

1974 - His 10 years luck pillar was Bing Xu - Fire Earth - Xu (DOG)crashed with the Chen (DRAGON) Can be interpreted as a beginning of relationships that want something from him, new idealogies, and recognition/acknowledgements. This was the start of his political career!

Also, the BING fire of the SUN (unlike the Ding) is an element that REN YIN (Water Tiger) folks like to have. (I have a fair bit of Bing fire people that I work quite closely with, even though fire is NOT my favorable element). You could imagine the SUN rising over the ocean - beautiful isn't it!

So even the year was not good for him (he had also recently losts his father then), his 10 years luck pillar was supporting him.

In 1986 - his 10 years luck pillar was Ding Hai (Fire Pig) whose branch primary element is WATER, one of his favorable element. The year was Bing Yin or Fire Wood. We already established earlier that the BING fire in the stem actually not too bad, especially for a REN water daymaster. So 1986 was actually quite a good year for him.

Note: Generally the 10 years luck pillar has more affect on the chart than the year. However, in cases where the 10 years luck pillar is not favorable, you can look the annual pillars.

1990 - I don't think this year was especially good as the fire in the Wu is actually the Ding fire. This ding fire is also present in the stem of the 10 years luck pillar. This was the year that he had won one and lost one, so it was an average year.

1995 - It appears to be a good year, but he almost lost Parliament seat and he lost the Padang Kota seat. What had happen here? He was going through a Wu Zi luck Pillar and a Yi Hai year. I think what happen here was an imbalance was created when there too much EARTH and WATER. Obviously water and earth put out fire, thus creating an imbalance the other way! So, too much earth and water also upsets the balance.

So....having looked a little close at those years and understanding the affects of the elements on luck, lets look at the other years. 2004, 2008, and current state of affairs.

Even though he had won in 2004, A Jia Shen (Wood Metal) year (especially during his Ji Chou luck pillar) doesn't look good (as far as luck is concerned). Infact, Karpal had quite a bad accident in January of 2005. January is Rax/Ox month (depending on the date), resulting in him been wheel chair bound!

2008 was a political tsunami year for Malaysia. As far as Karpal's chart goes. If you read his chart as weak Ren water, this would be a good year, as water (him) is strengthened, therefore, luck is with him. However, if you had look back at 1995, an imbalance would also be created. The chart now seems rather cold. The very relationships (robwealth or gui water) that supported him now creates other challenges.

2009 - Ji CHou - pure earth representing power, authority etc. Earth also contaiminates water, representing confusion. I must say that a few of his recent statements represent some state of confusion for him.

It's interesting how you can chart events in the person's life and predict certain outcomes based on elements, and balance alone. I must admit say are so many possibilities and there's been so many times where I just cannot figure it out. Well....will see how the political scenario pans out in Malaysia! More later.

Part 3 - Have Money will Travel

It is really quite eye opening when you can research on someone elses chart and history. But nothing beats doing it for your own life. I remember during the Bazi classes, everyone was more interested in interpreting their own chart (which was extremely irritating for those of us that wanted to learn!). However, let me cautioned all those Bazi enthusiast out there, it can also be a little disappointing when the good stuff you are looking for, don't always appear! Hey, that's life.

So, the Dragon year was a good year for me. After all it was a metal dragon. Received two rounds of venture capital funding. I was able to grow my staff count to close to 30 people. Incidently, I have a high number of Metal and Water people in my organization, not surprisingly. We were ready to take on the world! And that was what I did.

We had set up operations in the US, where I had my first key client, and started scouting for partners there. One of my old clients (who had cashed out) actually wanted to 'sell' our software and get into the IT line. He was an interesting fellow so he become our MD in the US operations. But I'm not exactly show that the partnership did more harm than good, however, I did consider it a great learning experience and definitely it was a time of my life that 'SKY DOG' star was present (appeared in 2001). We started doing shows in the US, and even participated in Comdex (it was the one THE IT shows back then).

Been quite naive and definitely inexperience, we were just thrilled by the aspect to be able to get a bite at the biggest market in the World. But the lies one major problem. We had raised Ringgits in VC fund and now spending US Dollars. Boy, were we spending more money than we could bring in (we were still selling our products in Ringgits!) (The devaluation of the currency didn't help too much either). It did however give us the much needed credibility and customer reference to establish ourselves locally (sad, strange but true).

Fire is not considered one of my favourite elements as I have so much fire in my chart. However, I do have some Bing Fire (fire of the SUN) friends that have been close to me, especially quite recently (not too sure if Ji Chou year has anything to do with it....cold wet earth needs to be warm up by fie of the SUN and the fact that I visited Australia (south = fire) twice last year alone! (I never fancied Australia in the past))

The fire years (2001 - 2003) was NOT all that bad, considering that I got my 3rd round of venture capital funding in 2002 with an international VC. (Interesting note: 2003 was a Goat year with the infamous Direct Officer in the chart again, coupled with the Gui water on top, indicating Robwealth)(So, can we safely assume that VCs are people that come to Rob your Wealth! hahahahaha)(I have a reputation in the market for VC bashing....don't be so quick to take their money, there is a requirement to give it back to them in some form or other or they's will do the direct officer thing on you!). Also, in one of my previous articles, we concluded that if you are have a weak daymaster, partners (robwealth) are important to you. So, I had no choice.

One of the key consideration is money does not necessarily always mean luck. Growing any business requires more than just money, although I would not dismiss it is an essential component. Understanding what you lack (obviously in hindsight) is something that is constant in growing your organisation. What I truly need to interpret is my 'lack of RESOURCE or METAL.' What does this mean to me? Resource is the sense of comfort. In a way, people that have excessive resource are quite contented (nicer way of saying lazy), obviously if you don't resource, you'll NEVER be satisfied! SO lack of resource initially maybe good, or you'll be too contented to want to be better!

Could it also mean that I need to find clients that are 'Metal' in nature? Banks can be considered Metal? Or Water (since my water element is weak), water could be interpreted as logistic or fast moving. Hmmm maybe an Airline (Metal Water) or Education (water) clients are what I need to make a difference....I wonder... :-P

The other significant attribute about my fire years was I was fiery! There was so many table banging sessions I don't think I was that approachable or likable. But it did keep the VCs at bay. This is one important PERSONAL aspect of being an entrepreneur. You MUST do what is important to you, not just please others. The pressure is sometimes so great to deliver, and if you are gifted with plenty of INDIRECT RESOURCE and Eating God elements, you may get a little too creative with the books and with engineering revenues. Obviously I know of friends who are in the same circle (some of them I have their charts) and see it happening all the time. In recent times, so many big establish boys have been caught. (This is more prevalent when the output element is the HURTING OFFICER and is not restrained by Direct Officer compounded by the fact that are too many 7K in the chart!). (I really don't like those 7K ceos, they are so bloody aggressive, you can see why they are quite successful).

Let me pause for a moment to establish there is no such thing as good or bad in profiling. It's just profiling. Good or bad is interpreted by what is considered norms in society. A lucky 'criminal' who gets a way, feels good and lucky, but society considers them bad...hope you understand what I mean.

By now, we can quite intelligently interpret that the Metal Monkey year would be good for me. That was the year that we went public. In fact it was a Bing Zi month - Indirect Wealth and Rob Wealth. That was a significant milestone as far as I was concerned. Been a public company brought new challenges and requires new wisdom. I'm still learning this part of the business, but hopefully my new found knowledge in bazi (resource) will help guide me through this turbulent financial times.

I mentioned at the beginning of this blog that the knowledge economy is the business of managing talents and people. Once an understanding is established, then application becomes key in generating the outcome one desires. Coupled with the power of Feng Shui and sheer hard work, I believe we can optimize destiny (this is a personal believe) but there lies the key word, personal. It can mean different things to different people, so just like any academic subject, learning and applying bazi is a life long journey. I don't consider myself 'master' material and I don't consider a lot of master masters, too. But if RESOURCE is something that I need to balance my chart, then I believe I'm on the right track.
